PENVENTON PARK is an actively running hotel in Redruth, Cornwall, England.
The building with its Georgian architecture with Italian heritage and charisma already has many powerful details. The sophisticated yet informal hotel features 63 boutique rooms, 3 versatile function suites, a gin bar with 160 gins to choose from, All Day Dining Restaurant, Spa, Swimming Pool and Fitness Suite.
The owners wanted us to turn the old storage & adjacent electrical rooms in the basement floor into a Wine Cellar & Tasting Area. Two main challenges of the project was the low ceiling height which could not be changed.
During the 18th century, Cornwall was the mining centre of the world, famous for Tin and Copper production. Following the brief from our client, we wanted the choice of materials to relate with the historical background of the region. All the display shelves, furniture details and ironmongery had been designed to match a significant Brushed Copper finish, accompanied by a Copper Mirror Barrisol detail in the ceilings, as well a feasible solution to the low ceiling height.
A bespoke crafted Tasting table located in the middle of the Tasting Area, with a Natural Stone top with Brushed Copper details & Wooden legs, chaperoned by a matching Sink Counter, garnished by Aare Wall Sconce by De Castelli. A Specialty Wine Selection is stored at the very end of the Tasting Area, with coloured glass cabinet doors, embedded as well as the overall display shelves, with a stone panel background, relating to the original walls of the building.
The neighbouring space had been utilized as a Wine Cellar, making use of the existing stone shelving system, with an addition of wooden framed cabinet doors for climatization. The space is connected to the All Day Dining Restaurant with a crafted spiral staircase, for customers who'd like to select their own bottles during their meals.
